Preparing for a Successful 2022

As a reminder, all winter term classes will begin online from January 10, 2022 for the first three weeks of the winter 2022 term and public access to university buildings will remain restricted. An update will be provided within the next couple of weeks. Visit Carleton’s COVID-19 website for more information.

Carleton is here to support and help your student throughout the winter term. Your student has access to mental health resources and Learning Support Workshops to aid them in their studies and beyond.

Important Dates and Deadlines

  • Monday, January 24, 2022: Last day for registration for winter term courses. Last day to change courses or sections for winter term courses.
  • Monday, January 31, 2022: Last day for withdrawal from winter term and winter portion of fall/winter courses with full fee adjustment. Withdrawals after this date will result in a permanent notation of WDN on the official transcript.

Mental Health and Well-Being

We know this is a difficult time for many and while there are still challenges ahead, there are many resources to support your student. The Mental Health and Well-Being website is a valuable resource to help you refer your student to the appropriate level of support based on their specific needs. Health and Counselling Services is open throughout the winter 2022 term and continues to provide virtual counselling appointments to students, including same-day counselling appointments. Students can call the clinic at 613-520-6674 to make an appointment. Undergraduate students also have access to free 24/7 mental health and well-being resources including counselling services in multiple languages through Empower Me.

Compassionate Grading

The Carleton University Senate has approved the use of flexible, compassionate grading options for undergraduate and special students in the fall 2021 and winter 2022 terms. Your student will have the option to convert one 0.5 credit passing grade to Satisfactory (SAT) for the fall 2021 term and one 0.5 credit grade to SAT in the winter 2022 term. Alternatively, your student may instead request that a passing grade for one full year (fall/winter) 1.0 credit is converted to SAT in the winter 2022 term.

Self-Declaration Form Available for Academic Accommodation

Carleton has suspended the need for a doctor’s note or medical certificate for academic accommodation requests for the winter 2022 term.

In place of a doctor’s note or medical certificate, your student can complete the self-declaration form available on the Registrar’s Office website to request academic accommodation for missed course work including exams and assignments. Encourage your student to connect directly with their course instructors to discuss required accommodations arising from the COVID-19 situation.

Virtual Winter Career Fair

The Virtual Winter Career Fair on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, is an excellent opportunity for your student to look for summer, part-time, full-time or co-op work opportunities and practice their networking skills. The Career Fair is open to current students and alumni.

Your student is encouraged to attend a Prepare for the Fair session before the Career Fair, on either Monday, January 17, 2022 or Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Students can drop in anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for a short chat to get their resume reviewed and receive tips on how to make the most of the fair.

Applications Now Open for Summer 2022 Virtual Internships

The International Internship Program is now accepting applications for the summer 2022 term.

This virtual internship experience is open to all undergraduate students who are actively seeking an opportunity to gain degree-related work experience, establish international connections in their field of interest and earn academic credit from Carleton University. Virtual internships have a range of flexible start dates and vary in length from six to 12 weeks over the summer term. Your student may be eligible for the International Internship Bursary to offset costs associated with participating.

Encourage your student to visit the International Internship Program website for more information.

Deferred Final Examination Schedule

Fall term deferred examinations will be held from Friday, January 21 to Sunday, January 23, 2022, and Friday, January 28 to Sunday, January 30, 2022. All deferred examinations will be written virtually.

If your student missed a final exam in December and has been approved to write a deferred final, encourage them to check their schedule carefully for their course number, exam date and time.

Your student has access to the Exam Support Network for general inquiries and for emergency exam support.
