Whether you’re a student looking to get a head start on their career, or a Carleton grad seeking to grow your professional network, the 2025 Winter Career & Networking Fair is a great opportunity to connect with and learn more about who’s hiring. Taking place on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the fair will feature booths from over 40 employers, including Telesat, Cisco and Telus.
There are many ways you can prepare yourself to maximize the value of your visit to the fair. Read on to learn about a few ways to make yourself the best candidate you can be.
Attend the Prepare for the Fair Events
Before every Career & Networking Fair, Career Services hosts two events dedicated to helping attendees hone their skills before they head to the booths. Attend these virtual workshops to gain an edge when networking with potential employers.
The first event, Prepare for the Fair: Building a Strong LinkedIn Profile and Cultivating Your Online Network, will help attendees strengthen their professional online presence and begin to grow their network. Taking place on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, visit this event to gain insight on LinkedIn strategies, building connections online and more.
Attend the second event, Prepare for the Fair: Practicing Your Networking Skills and Techniques to learn more about in-person networking. Join the meeting on Thursday, January 30, 2025 to practice speaking professionally, following up on connections and more.
Drop In at the Resume Review Station
When networking and applying to jobs, it’s no secret your resume can often make or break the opportunity. To ensure your application is strong and clear, Career Services hosts a table during the fair with staff ready to give advice on how you could improve your resume. This is a quick, easy and free way to improve your experience both in and out of the fair.
Bring a paper copy of your resume for an on-the-spot checkup!
Get Good at First Impressions
With many attendees, things move quickly at the career fair, and interactions are often short and sweet. This means that the first impression you make on a potential future employer is paramount. Make sure you’re dressed appropriately—jeans, hoodies, sweatpants and graphic tees are all no-gos. It’s also good practice to smile, maintain eye contact and move around with confidence to give off a pleasant and professional impression.
