Environment Canada has ended the severe thunderstorm warning, but the severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for Ottawa on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain.

Update #1: Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10:30 a.m.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Ottawa on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and torrential rain.

Hazards include wind gusts up to 100 km/h, torrential rainfall with amounts exceeding 50 mm and a tornado is also possible.

Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn’t a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continue to monitor the Current Students weather page for updates.

The university remains open and operations are running as scheduled.

Please exercise caution when traveling to and commuting on campus.
