Freezing Rain Warning and Special Weather Statement

Update #1: Wednesday, April 2, 2025, 8:20 a.m.

Environment Canada has issued a Freezing Rain Warning and Special Weather Statement for Ottawa for freezing rain expected tonight, April 2, 2025, into early Thursday morning, April 3, 2025, as well as rain, heavy at times, this evening through Thursday morning.

Snow and ice pellets will advance northeastward this afternoon before transitioning to freezing rain tonight. Prior to the transition to freezing rain, snowfall amounts up to 5 cm may occur over some locations. Easterly winds gusting to near 50 km/h may exacerbate any tree damage.

As temperatures rise above the freezing mark, freezing rain will transition to rain overnight into early Thursday morning. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continue to monitor the Current Students weather page for updates.

The university remains open and operations are running as scheduled.

Please exercise caution when traveling to and commuting on campus.
