The deadline to apply for the International Internship Program is coming up fast on Monday, November 25, 2024! This program is open to undergraduate students who are interested in participating in virtual or in-person international internships for winter or summer 2025.
Virtual internships are available winter and summer 2025 and are open to those with second-year standing and higher at the time of the internship. In-person internships are available summer 2025 and are open to those with third-year standing and higher at the time of the internship.
Below, hear from Hary Shanmuganathan, the International Internship Program Coordinator, as they answer common questions about this unique work experience.
What does an international internship entail?
An international internship is an opportunity for students to gain degree-related work experience and expand their professional network. Students can participate in this internship opportunity either remotely or in person. While pursuing an unpaid internship experience, students are enrolled in either a 0.5 or 1.0 academic credit course at Carleton. The associated academic credit is a third-year elective credit. The internship experience is an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge from their academics in a professional setting.
What career skills can international internships offer students?
Through participating in an international internship experience, students will have the opportunity to boost their employability by building and enhancing their resume. A common concern the team hears from students is that they are looking for meaningful professional experience to add to their resume, but struggling to know where to start. Therefore, an internship is the perfect way to build on or kickstart your professional career! Additionally, through an international internship, students will be able to broaden their cross-cultural and global perspectives–building connections with international employers and professionals from around the world.
What’s the application process like?
Applying is the first step to taking part in an internship. Once the team receives your application, we will reach out to provide more details and invite you to an information call. You will be provided with the logistical, academic and financial details about internships to see if this program is a good fit for you.
Is there anything else students should know?
To help offset the costs associated with participating, discounted packages are available for certain regions and all packages include accommodations for in-person internships.
