Update #1: Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 10:50 a.m.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Ottawa for the afternoon and early evening of Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain.
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water.
Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
When thunder roars, go indoors! Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continue to monitor the Current Students weather page for updates.
The university remains open and operations are running as scheduled.
Please exercise caution when traveling to and commuting on campus.
