Severe Thunderstorm Watch Ended

Update #2: Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 8:30 a.m.

Environment Canada has ended the severe thunderstorm watch for Ottawa. There are no weather alerts at this time.

Update #1: Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 2:40 p.m.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Ottawa for the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Should these thunderstorms strengthen, they may be accompanied by strong winds, hail and heavy rain. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continue to monitor the Current Students weather page for updates.

The university remains open. Operations will run as scheduled.

Please exercise caution when traveling to and commuting on campus.
