Preparing for Co-op Applications

This news post is more than one year old and has been retained for archive purposes. The information below may no longer be relevant.

Co-op students can land jobs throughout the term via the job board on mySuccess (log in to Carleton360 from the current students website) as well as through a self-directed job search.

Juggling classes, assignments, work obligations, social commitments and a co-op job search while maintaining good self-care can feel challenging.

Below are a few tips to help keep you organized and motivated and increase the success of your search.

  1. Set up job filters and alerts in mySuccess – reduce the risk of missing out on a great opportunity.
  2. Block off a few hours each week to work on your job search to be consistent. During this time, work on a job search task, such as practising your interview skills, updating your resume, etc.
  3. Look out for opportunities to interact with employers at career fairs, networking events and employer information sessions – look at mySuccess often for updates and jot them in your calendar.
  4. Find co-op job opportunities through networking. Let friends and family know you are looking for a position. Connect with classmates in and outside of the classroom through student groups and societies. Reach out to Carleton alumni via LinkedIn.
  5. Don’t forget to get support – if you have questions or concerns about your job search, connect with your Co-op Student Advisor. Also check out the resources on the Job Search Support Hub on Brightspace and look out for announcements about events designed to help you with your search.
