There are 19 classrooms designated as study spaces for student use during the 2022-2023 year. Quiet Study Rooms are for lecture viewing and independent work only and can be used on a first-come, first-serve basis - no booking required. Group Study Rooms can be reserved for group work up to seven days in advance.

For more information, please visit the Scheduling and Examination Services website.

Stay Connected and On Track

October is a good time for students to check in to ensure they are on track to meet their goals.

One tool to use is the academic audit, a tailor-made map to navigating through degree requirements. It records your student’s academic history and current academic status. The Academic Advising Centre (AAC) has a great online resource featuring helpful FAQs and tips on how to read the audit.

CU Know How is a guide to Carleton’s rules and regulations. The guide is available online and is an excellent resource to help your Raven get the most out of their degree program.

Making registration decisions involves a financial and academic commitment for the courses chosen, regardless of attendance. If your student does not attend, they must withdraw in Carleton Central (log in through Carleton360 from the current students site) within the published deadlines to cancel registration. A fee adjustment is dependent on registration being canceled within the published fee deadlines and is dependent on the course load.

To ensure your student stays connected, remind them to regularly check their Carleton cMail account. This is the email address used as the official means of contact throughout the academic year.

Academic Continuation Evaluation (ACE) is a new method of assessing a student’s status in their degree. ACE encourages students to move steadily through their program and connect with academic advisors along the way. For more information, your student can visit the Registrar's Office website.

Carleton360: Convenient Access Through Single Sign On

Carleton360 is your student’s complete experience hub. Carleton360 uses single sign on, providing one-stop, easy access to Carleton Central, cMail and Brightspace without re-entering credentials. Carleton360 is also home to your student’s Intray – an inbox featuring important messages from the university including dates and deadlines, registration information and more. Inside Carleton360 your student can access direct links to important university resources, recent news and explore timely supports and services.

Your student can log in through Carleton360 on the current students website.

Substance Use Health at Carleton

It is a time of many new experiences and opportunities for your student to seek out and connect with peers. With so much going on, The Office of Student Affairs is sharing some information about safer substance use and the Umbrella Project harm reduction strategy here at Carleton.

We hope your Raven is safely enjoying their time on campus. Encourage them to visit the newly updated Wellness website and follow @CarletonWellness Instagram for more tips and resources!

Changes to cMail

On Saturday, October 1, 2022, Microsoft rolled out a new method of authentication called Modern Authentication for all customers, including students using cMail. Apps that don’t support Modern Authentication have lost access to cMail. If your student’s email app doesn’t support Modern Authentication they will need to download the Microsoft Outlook app for all mobile, desktop and laptop devices, or switch to Outlook on the Web using a browser.

For next steps, encourage your student to visit the ITS information page or contact the ITS Service Desk.

Fall Break

Carleton University students will have a fall break from Tuesday, October 24, 2022 to Saturday, October 28, 2022. During this time, no classes will take place.

If your student is enrolled in courses at the University of Ottawa in the Exchange Program, remind them to check important dates and deadlines for the host university. Students must participate in classes based on the class schedule of the host institution.

CU SASC CHAT Service

Carleton University Sexual Assault Support Centre’s web/text service, CU SASC CHAT, is available for support with anything that helps to create a culture of consent on campus, from relationships to experience with sexual violence (in the near or distant past) along with related services and resources. Chat sessions are encrypted, anonymous and all messages are deleted afterwards.

Your student can visit the CU SASC CHAT webpage to get more info and to start a text or chat session.

Changing Program Elements (Within the Same Degree)

Does your Raven want to add a concentration or minor to their degree? Perhaps they wish to try another discipline altogether? Returning undergraduate degree students need to request changes to their degrees on the Change of Program Elements page in Carleton Central (log in to Carleton360 through the current students website). For more details on making program element changes, please visit the current students website.

Changing Your Student’s Address Online

It is important to verify Carleton has the correct address for your Raven on file. Your student can do this quickly and easily through Carleton Central (log in through Carleton360 on the current students website). Instructions to change the address are on the Registrar’s Office website.

Is Your Raven Planning to Graduate in February or June?

If your student plans to complete their degree by the end of the fall or the winter term, remind them to double check their Degree Audit Report after they have registered for all their courses. Remind your Raven to apply to graduate within the published deadlines:

    • Thursday, December 1, 2022 for winter (February) graduation
    • Saturday, April 1, 2023 for spring (June) graduation
You can also remind your Raven to review their Academic Status Report (ASR). The ASR is a companion tool for the academic audit, developed in Carleton Central, that displays real-time information regarding degree program status in a user-friendly format. The ASR is designed to highlight many of the common graduation requirements and shows your student if they are on track to meet them. To learn more about the ASR, encourage your Raven to check out the Registrar's Office how to video.
