This week on Pro-Tips one of Athletic’s personal trainers, Beatrix, came on to share her three tips on how to create healthy habits. These tips are useful not just for any New Year’s resolutions you may have, but for starting yourself on a healthier path any time of year.
Write it Down
Writing down your new goals and habits you want to incorporated into your life serves both as a reminder of your commitment, but also as a way to keep yourself accountable. Weather you write it down in your planner, put a sticky note on your mirror to see every morning or keep a goal tracker, a visual reminder will help keep you on track and keep that new habit front of mind until it becomes second nature.
Get a Good Night’s Sleep
A good night’s sleep is the base for pretty much everything, but is especially important when trying to create healthier habits. While it may be tempting to stay up late doing homework or scrolling through Instagram, make sure you’re getting 8-10 hours of sleep a night to give yourself the energy to give 100% to your new goals.
As much as you wish you could, you can’t go from never going to the gym to going every single day. Make your new habits achievable, and don’t be afraid to start small and work your way up – instead of every day, start by going to the gym three times a week. If after a month or so you feel like you have a handle on that, go up to four days a week, and so on until you reach your goal.
