When I first started here at Carleton, I felt very homesick and my mental health was in a pretty bad state. I tried anything I could possibly think of, including calling my parents every day and even talking to my Res Fellows multiple times about how I was feeling. Things started to get better for a while, but then I would go into states of being very sad at random times throughout each month. I felt that I should start to broaden my horizons a bit and take my mind off of things.
So, I decided to join Sock N’ Buskin, Carleton’s theatre company. Once I joined, I immediately felt like part of a community. I had always loved theater and I had finally found a place that I really belonged to. I made a lot of friends with similar interests and I started to feel much better. Being a part of a thriving community is such an essential part of the university experience.
