CU Don't Know

This blog post is brought to you by CU Don’t Know, Carleton’s Responsible Drinking strategy.

Thanksgiving is near! You might be staying in Ottawa and planning to enjoy the extra day off or maybe heading home to see family and friends.  Wherever you may be – if you’re planning on hosting a party this Thanksgiving long weekend it’s important to keep a few pointers to keep in mind.

  1. Let your neighbours know of the party in advance.
  2. Remember that excessive noise at any time of the day is illegal if it is considered a nuisance by your neighbours. Try and keep the noise level low, the people inside, and the doors and windows closed.
  3. Limit the number of guests, and have a plan for parking and clean up. Police respond immediately to big parties and can impose large fines.
  4. Remember that you can be charged for having open alcohol in public spaces, such as front lawns, lobbies or stairwells of apartment buildings, and on Carleton’s campus and in residence hallways.

If we’re conscious of those around us, we can all have a good time.
