Join Umoja Black Community Engagement Program to celebrate Black History Month with an assortment of events and activities to commemorate Black History.
Umoja celebrates Black history and also celebrates the uniqueness of the experiences of Black women and Black gender-diverse individuals.
This will be an event for Black women and Black gender-diverse community members, centering self-care and HIV self-testing, as Black women account for 60 per cent of all HIV diagnoses amongst women in Ontario. In all, we feel this event will have a positive impact on the community by opening up and creating a culturally-safe space for Black women and Black gender-diverse folks to talk freely about hair health, mental health, sexual health, body care, HIV and how all can be seen as forms of self-care.
Umoja is partnering with Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC), Aids Committee of Ottawa, BLKGURI and Ottawa Public Health for this exciting event.
This event will be divided into four parts and led by several Black facilitators.
