Join Mawandoseg, Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) and Carleton’s Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) for Carleton’s Every Child Matters Flag Raising in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Wed. Sept. 30, 2026 from noon to 1:00 p.m. next to the flagpoles on Library Road near Azrieli Theatre.

This gathering will create a shared campus moment to honour and remember the children, families, survivors and communities affected by the residential school system, while encouraging continued learning, reflection and participation beyond Sept. 30.

The event forms part of Reconciliation Beyond, Mawandoseg’s broader campaign encouraging the Carleton community to continue engaging with truth and reconciliation beyond a single day of recognition.

The gathering will include:

  • Welcome remarks and a territorial acknowledgement
  • Remarks from CUSA and Carleton University
  • Raising of the Every Child Matters flag
  • A collective moment of remembrance and reflection
  • An Indigenous cultural performance featuring pow wow dancers
  • Context and explanation surrounding the dances being shared
  • An introduction to upcoming Reconciliation Beyond programming
  • Refreshments, resources and opportunities for community conversation following the
    ceremony
  • Orange Shirt Day resources, shirts and/or pins available while supplies last
