Yellow watch: severe thunderstorm View weather updates

Environment Canada has issued a yellow watch for severe thunderstorms in Ottawa for the afternoon and evening of Wed. Aug. 12, 2026.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Hazards include wind gusts near 90 km/h. Quarter sized hail. Heavy rain.

When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continue to monitor the Current Students weather page for updates.

The university remains open and operations are running as scheduled.
