In response to the Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and increasing risks in Uganda and South Sudan, the Government of Canada is taking decisive action by introducing temporary border measures to reduce the risk of the virus entering and spreading within Canada.
For students considering summer travel, starting Wed. May 27, 2026 and for 90 days, Canadian visas and eTAs will be suspended for residents of countries with a high risk of outbreak of Ebola (Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Uganda). Additionally, from Sat. May 30 to Sat. Aug. 29, 2026, Canadian citizens, permanent residents, persons registered under the Indian Act and foreign nationals, who have been in these areas within the previous 21 days and do not have symptoms, will have to quarantine for 21 days after arrival. These measures do not affect anyone currently in Canada. The government has announced that any of these measures may be extended, expanded or otherwise revised with little notice.
Please contact the Global Opportunities and International Student Services Office if you have any questions about your summer travel plans as they pertain to these new measures.
