Update #2: Tues. June 30, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

Environment Canada has issued an orange warning for heat for Ottawa, in addition to the yellow watch for severe thunderstorms. The heat warning begins Wed. July 1 and continues into the weekend.

Humidex values reaching 34 are expected for the next four days. The hottest days are expected to be Wednesday and Thursday, with maximum temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius expected. Minimum temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees Celsius will provide little relief from the heat.

Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water. Seek medical attention if required.

While Carleton University is closed on Wed. July 1, 2026, the university reopens on Thurs. July 2, 2026. Campus facilities are climate controlled.

Update #1: Tues. June 30, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.

Environment Canada has issued a yellow watch for severe thunderstorms for Ottawa on Tues. June 30, 2026.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms over eastern and central Ontario are expected to keep tracking southeast today bringing strong winds, hail and heavy rain. Local utility outages are possible.

Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles. Fast-moving and rapidly rising water can sweep vehicles away and damage infrastructure. When thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continue to monitor the Current Students weather page for updates.

The university remains open and operations are running as scheduled.

Please exercise caution when traveling to and commuting on campus.
