DESCRIPTION:<p>Join Mawandoseg, CUSA and Carleton’s Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) for Carleton&#8217;s Every Child Matters Flag Raising in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.</p>
<p>This gathering will create a shared campus moment to honour and remember the children, families, survivors and communities affected by the residential school system, while encouraging continued learning, reflection and participation beyond Sept. 30.</p>
<p>The event forms part of Reconciliation Beyond, Mawandoseg’s broader campaign encouraging the Carleton community to continue engaging with truth and reconciliation beyond a single day of recognition.</p>
<p>The gathering will include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Welcome remarks and a territorial acknowledgement</li>
<li>Remarks from CUSA and Carleton University</li>
<li>Raising of the Every Child Matters flag</li>
<li>A collective moment of remembrance and reflection</li>
<li>An Indigenous cultural performance featuring Pow Wow dancers</li>
<li>Context and explanation surrounding the dances being shared</li>
<li>An introduction to upcoming Reconciliation Beyond programming</li>
<li>Refreshments, resources and opportunities for community conversation following the<br />
ceremony</li>
<li>Orange Shirt Day resources, shirts and/or pins available while supplies last</li>
</ul>
<p>This event is outdoors, at the flagpoles on Library Road near Azrieli Theatre.</p>
