International students, do you know about the International Student Employment Program (ISEP) and how it can benefit you? Presented by Career Services, this program is designed to equip global students with the skills needed to enter the Canadian labour market and connect Carleton’s talented international students with recruiting employers when opportunities are available. How does ISEP help international students prepare for the Canadian job market?

ISEP offers access to specialized Career Services modules designed to equip international students with the skills needed to navigate and enter the Canadian labour market. These modules cover essential topics such as:

  • Beginning your job search and building your resume – Learn how to create a strong resume and effectively search for job opportunities in Canada.
  • Canadian Workplace Culture – Understand the Canadian workplace expectations, gain effective communication skills and build your professional network.
  • Introduction to the Canadian Hiring Process – Gain insights into how employers recruit and what they look for in candidates.
  • What to Expect in a Job Interview – Prepare for your interview questions and develop strategies to present yourself confidently.
  • Transitioning into the Canadian Workplace – Learn how to adapt to a new work environment and succeed in your new role.

What does the registration process look like?

Register on the ISEP website to start your online career development training. Once you complete the online training you will be able to access the ISEP job board and get one-on-one support when you apply to work opportunities.

Is there anything else students should know?

Yes! There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • ISEP is a great way to gain Canadian work experience as an international student. You will get insights on what Canadian recruiters are looking for and ways to expand your network in Canada. You will gain the skills and confidence that will increase your chances when applying to employment opportunities through the Careers and ISEP job boards, and on any other platform (LinkedIn, Indeed, etc.).
  • Registration for ISEP is ongoing and the online training is self-paced, giving you the space and time to plan your schedule accordingly.
  • Once you register, you will be able to book one-on-one career advising designed to support international students.
  • Once you have completed the training modules, you can access the ISEP Job Board.
