Yellow Watch: Severe Thunderstorm

Environment Canada has ended the red warning: tornado. The yellow watch for severe thunderstorms in Ottawa remains in effect.

Environment Canada has issued a red warning: tornado for Ottawa.
Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. This is a very dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately in a basement, interior room, or a sturdy shelter when threatening weather approaches. If no shelter is available, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.

Environment Canada has issued a yellow watch for severe thunderstorms in Ottawa on Tues. July 21, 2026.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Hazards include torrential downpours. Local rainfall amounts in excess of 50 mm. Wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h. Quarter to ping pong ball size hail.
When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

The university remains open and operations are running as scheduled.
