In addition to the special weather statement for rain, Environment Canada has issued a yellow watch for severe thunderstorm in Ottawa for late morning and early afternoon on Thurs. June 18, 2026.
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts near 90 km/h, heavy rain and the risk of tornadoes.
Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Secure loose objects.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for rain in Ottawa for Thurs. June 18, 2026.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected, with rainfall amounts of 30-40 mm this morning through early this evening. Showers continue as a strong low pressure system approaches the area. There is a potential for severe thunderstorms late this morning or early this afternoon with heavy rain and strong wind gusts being the primary threats.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continue to monitor the Current Students weather page for updates.
The university remains open and operations are running as scheduled.
