Ontario has shifted toward a new province-wide recycling system where companies and the institutions that produce packaging and paper products are now responsible for managing and funding their recycling. If you’re a student living off campus, this won’t change how you set out your blue box, but it does mean a more consistent program across the province and clearer rules about what can and can’t be recycled. If you’re a student living on campus, there are no changes for you, and you can continue to recycle on campus as you have previously.
Carleton is continuing to work towards reducing unnecessary packaging (asking suppliers to reduce or take back packaging), choosing more recyclable materials and continuing to support stronger recycling practices on campus to directly contribute to the success of Ontario’s updated Blue Box program.
