The planning committee for the 2026 Underhill Graduate Student Colloquium is seeking a Carleton-based artist or graphic designer to create the visual identity for the upcoming conference, taking place in February 2026. This includes designing the event logo, promotional materials and merch.
This year’s theme, “Reimagining Community | Doing History Together,” invites participants to explore new ways of creating and sharing histories through connection, collaboration and creativity.
As one of Canada’s longest-running graduate history conferences, the Underhill Colloquium provides a national platform to showcase the diverse work of students across disciplines. This year, Carleton’s Graduate History Department is extending that visibility to feature an artist’s work within Carleton’s student community.
Listed below are key conference themes to consider within your creative submissions:
- Community and connection
- Storytelling and imagination
- Kinship and friendship
- Place and built heritage
- Generational storytelling
- Carleton’s arts community
An honorarium will be provided for the selected artist.
Email your application to underhillcolloquim@cunet.carleton.ca.
Please include:
- A curated portfolio of your previous work
- A brief write-up outlining your design ideas for this year’s theme (max. 300 words)
- A short biographical statement describing your background and how it supports your application (max. 200 words)
You may also include a link to your portfolio or social media pages.
The deadline to apply is midnight on Friday, December 5, 2025. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with all applicants notified of the results of their submission by Monday, January 5, 2026, at the latest.
