Career Services offers specialized programming for students who identify as having a disability and for employers who want to hire more inclusively through Accessible Career Transitions (ACT). ACT provides two types of services:
ACT Advising
Meet with an ACT advisor to receive individualized, adapted and ongoing guidance from a strengths-based approach. Topics addressed during ACT advising appointments may include:
- Career exploration
- Job search and networking strategies
- Resume and cover letter
- Job applications
- Interview preparation
- Professionalism
- Workplace accommodations and disclosure of disability
ACT advising is available by appointment only. Students must first be registered with ACT to book an appointment. Once registered, email ACT@Carleton.ca to book an ACT advising appointment.
ACT to Employ
ACT to Employ supports students with disabilities find experiential learning opportunities that align with their academic and career goals. ACT students have access to the following services:
- Jobs on campus and in the community to increase employability skills, network connections and confidence
- Assistance with job search, applications and interviews
- Employment check-ins
- Integrative and student-centered counselling related to work and disability
- ACT to Employ Resource Hub on Brightspace, which includes modules on professionalism, disclosure and accommodations, communication (including helpful email templates) and more
- Introduction to community supports and opportunities
ACT to Employ is available to current students.
