Message from the Chair of the Board of Governors
Dear members of the Carleton community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Nikita (Nik) Nanos as Carleton’s 13th Chancellor, effective July 1, 2025.
Nanos is the Chief Data Scientist and Founder of Nanos Research Group of Companies. Leading one of Canada’s most distinguished research firms, he oversees the Nanos Bloomberg Canadian Confidence Index, which tracks consumer confidence in the Canadian economy. He is the pollster of record for The Globe and Mail, CTV News and Bloomberg News Canada.
Nanos is also a Member of the Order of Canada, an Adjunct Research Professor at Carleton’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) and a member of the Advisory Board, Canadian Defence and Security Network.
Nanos’ commitment to Carleton and the Ottawa community is well established. As a past member and chair of the Board of Governors (2014-2022), he significantly influenced the university’s strategic direction, leading initiatives that enhanced Carleton’s academic reputation, governance and community engagement.
His exceptional personal integrity and sense of purpose reflect Carleton’s mission, values and aspirations. As a prominent figure in opinion research, Nanos’ influence will benefit Carleton by raising the university’s profile and strengthening connections with stakeholders across Canada and beyond.
Nanos succeeds Carleton’s former Chancellor, Yaprak Baltacioğlu, who has provided outstanding support to the Carleton community since 2018.
Nanos will be officially installed as Chancellor during Carleton’s convocation ceremony on June 20, 2025.
