Experience Sky Woman’s Story and Indigenous Beading at MacOdrum Library

MacOdrum Library, in partnership with the Office of the Associate Vice-President: Indigenous Teaching, Learning and Research, presents the Off the Page, Into Real Life: A Sky Woman event on Friday, March 7, 2025. This special event will feature two engaging sessions exploring Indigenous storytelling and artistry.

Morning Session: A Retelling of Sky Woman’s Story – 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Join Dr. Kahente Horn-Miller, Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Teaching, Learning and Research as she retells the story of Sky Woman from a first-person perspective. Through this rematriated account of Sky Woman’s fall to earth, Dr. Horn-Miller offers a fresh perspective of Sky Woman’s origin while challenging other renditions of the story.

Afternoon Session: Beading the Story – 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In the afternoon, participate in an immersive beading experience and delve into the intricate world of Indigenous beading. Participants will have the opportunity to bead onto decorated printed sheets or bring their own work or books to embellish. Explore experimenting with a variety of colours, textures and techniques in a hands-on creative environment. No prior experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm! All materials will be provided.

Register for both events on the Indigenous Gathering website. Space is limited.
