Are you moving out of an off-campus rental this year? This is a great opportunity for you to reduce your waste and help your community by upcycling unwanted items. Use the following tips from the City of Ottawa to help you on your green moving journey:
- If you’re a tenant moving out, please remember garbage is collected bi-weekly. Check the city’s online collection calendar to find your pick-up day and talk to your landlord to know where to place large items, such as furniture, for disposal.
- Your waste is placed out for collection by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day, or no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the day before.
- Keep items in good condition out of the landfill by giving them away, donating them to a charitable organization or swapping them for something new. Visit the City of Ottawa’s website for a list of waste reduction organizations, or search the Waste Explorer to find retailers near you who accept items for donation.
