Preparing for a Successful 2022

This news post is more than one year old and has been retained for archive purposes. The information below may no longer be relevant.

Happy new year, Ravens! Welcome and welcome back – whether this is the beginning of your degree at Carleton University or your last few months before graduation, the start of a new term is always busy. While 2022 has brought a fresh start with new opportunities, the ongoing pandemic continues to be challenging and difficult to navigate. As we prepare for the winter term, we want to remind you Carleton is here to support and help you with your studies and life outside the books.

As a reminder, all winter term classes will begin online from January 10, 2022 for the first three weeks of the winter 2022 term. Subject to public health guidance, we anticipate in-person instruction to start Monday, January 31 for courses currently scheduled to be delivered in-person. We are continuing to monitor the rapidly evolving situation and will provide further updates in January.

Access to the majority of university buildings will remain limited to authorized individuals only and public access will remain restricted. Review service hours and access information for services and offices on Carleton’s COVID-19 website.

To help ease you back into the study routine, check out the Learning Support Workshops at the Centre for Student Academic Success (CSAS). These sessions are designed to help you develop the skills to achieve academic success. CSAS is also offering many other services and resources online, like Writing Consultation Sessions, Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS), and interactive webinars!

There are a variety of resources available to help you navigate Brightspace, including the Brightspace Student Support website, channel in Mediaspace, and Online Learning Orientation. Our post on Brightspace support answers some Brightspace FAQs.

The beginning of a new term is a great time to check in on your academic progress. Your online degree audit is your tailor-made map to navigating through your degree requirements. It records your registration and current academic status. Because the audit is an ever-changing document, it is critical that you review your audit often, especially after you have added or dropped courses. You have access to your audit 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Carleton Central, accessible through Carleton360. Your Academic Status Report (ASR) is a companion tool for the academic audit that displays real-time information regarding your degree program status in a user-friendly format. The ASR is designed to highlight many of the common graduation requirements, and it will show you if you’re on track to meet them.

If you need help with registering or adjusting your winter term courses, the Student Registration Team is available to help from Wednesday, January 5, 2022 to Monday, January 24, 2022.
