Update #5: Dunton Tower Reopening Monday, September 27

Update #5: Dunton Tower Reopening Monday, September 27

Facilities Management and Planning is pleased to confirm that installation of a rental fan to reinstate ventilation to Dunton Tower was successfully completed on Saturday, September 25. The safe reopening of the building will occur on Monday, September 27 as planned.

The building was closed last week due to a failure in the main air supply fan, which prevented the university from meeting its COVID-19 safety measures for our faculty, staff and students.

A longer-term replacement solution is currently being designed and will be implemented in the coming months.

Update #4: Monday, September 20, 2021 at 3:50 p.m.

Facilities Management and Planning wishes to thank the campus community for its patience as we investigated solutions to allow for the reopening Dunton Tower.

The building was closed last week due to a failure in the main air supply fan, which prevented the university from meeting its COVID-19 safety measures for our faculty, staff and students. It remains closed this week (Monday, September 20 – Friday, September 24).

A rental fan will arrive on campus tomorrow and will be installed later this week, with an expected reopening of Dunton Tower on Monday, September 27. A crane will be on site to install the fan on the roof of the building and this will require a section of Library Road near Dunton Tower to be closed on Saturday, September 25. All safety precautions will be in place in the area.

An update will be provided to the community as new information becomes available.

Update #3: Monday, September 13, 2021 at 3:30 p.m.

Dunton Tower will remain closed the week of Monday, September 13 – Friday, September 17 inclusive, following an initial assessment of the damage to the main air supply fan conducted over the weekend.

This week, the fan will be dismantled to determine the extent of the damage and repairs required, as well as availability of parts. A long-term plan to replace the supply fan is being developed.

The building is remaining closed for safety reasons as there is no ventilation available without the supply fan.

A further update to the campus will be provided on Friday, September 17.

Update #2: Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 1:15 p.m.

Further to the earlier notice to the Carleton community, Dunton Tower is currently closed and will remain closed Monday, September 13, 2021.

The closure is for safety reasons as the building will not have ventilation without the supply fan. The situation is being evaluated.

An update will be provided to the campus community on Monday, September 13, 2021.

Facilities Management and Planning appreciate your understanding during this unplanned outage.
