In order to better serve the diverse community at Carleton University, Writing Services will be offering support sessions centered on Academic Writing for English Language Learners. This program is facilitated by an experienced English as an Additional Language (EAL) practitioner, who provides students with curated instruction and practical exercises. Certain key concepts include the integration of select grammar structures in academic writing, such as noun clauses, the identification of various sentence structures commonly used in academic writing, such as syntax, and the exploration of different types of vocabulary in academic contexts (GSL, AWL).
Sessions will be held virtually through Microsoft Teams every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST. The session schedule is available on the CSAS website.
Participants will be expected to use the information provided in the sessions in accordance with the writing styles of their own academic disciplines.
Sessions will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams in a group setting. Students can sign up for individual sessions by logging in to MySuccess > Workshops/Events > Centre for Student Academic Support.
Please note that Academic Writing for English Language Learners sessions are not eligible for the Incentive Program or the Learning and Writing Development Series.
