Update #6: Southam Hall Has Reopened

Update #6: Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.

Southam Hall has reopened with water service and power restored to the building.

Contractors are still working in the building as well as outside, at the south west end of building where the water main ruptured. For safety reasons please avoid all areas that are barricaded, signed or marked off with caution tape.

Update #5: Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 10:35 a.m.

The water main that ruptured on May 23, 2021, near Southam Hall has now been repaired and water service to affected buildings has been restored.

The following buildings have reopened: HCI, Loeb, MacOdrum Library, SSRB and VSIM.

Southam Hall remains on emergency power only and remains closed until further notice. Teaching and Learning Services have made alternate arrangements for continuity of classes normally done from Southam Hall.

Facilities Management and Planning would like to thank the Carleton community for their cooperation and patience as this emergency work was completed.

Update #4: Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.

Crews continue work at the site of the water main break near Southam Hall. Excavation work is underway to allow crews to access the affected water main and perform repairs.

The following buildings are without water and remain closed: HCI, Loeb, MacOdrum Library, Southam Hall, SSRB and VSIM.

Southam Hall remains on emergency power only and is closed until further notice. Teaching and Learning Services are making alternate arrangements for continuity of classes normally done from Southam Hall.

Facilities Management and Planning continues to work to resolve the issue and will provide an update on Monday, May 31 following restoration work over the weekend.

Update #3: Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 5:15 p.m.

Crews continue work at the site of the water main break on May 23, 2021, near Southam Hall. Due to the location of the break in a four-inch supply line, and the depth of the water main, pile driving will need to be done at the site to ensure the structural integrity of Southam Hall.

As such, the following buildings will be without water and closed for the remainder of the week: HCI, Loeb, MacOdrum Library, Southam Hall, SSRB and VSIM.

Southam Hall remains on emergency power only and is closed until further notice. Teaching and Learning Services are making alternate arrangements for the continuity of classes normally done from Southam Hall.

Facilities Management and Planning continues to work to resolve the issue and further updates will be provided as restoration work continues.

Update #2: Monday, May 24, 2021 at 1:35 p.m.

Crews continue excavation work at the site of the water main break on Sunday, May 23 near Southam Hall. Due to the location of the break and depth of the water main, the repairs will not be complete in time to restore water in the affected buildings on Tuesday, May 25. As such, the following buildings remain closed: HCI, Loeb, MacOdrum Library, Southam Hall and VSIM.

Southam Hall remains on emergency power only, and is closed until further notice.

Facilities Management and Planning continues to work to resolve the issue and further updates will be provided as restoration work continues.

Update #1: Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 11:56 a.m.

Early this morning, a water main near Southam Hall ruptured, causing flooding in that building.  Crews are on site, working to resolve the problem. Due to the earlier flooding, normal power remains off to Southam Hall. Emergency power is running in the building.

Water service has been shut off this morning to HCI, Loeb, MacOdrum Library, Southam Hall and VSIM, and will remain off until the repair area can be isolated.

Facilities Management and Planning continues to work to resolve the issue and will provide further updates as restoration work continues.
