Resources During Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is the Canadian Mental Health Association’s annual Mental Health Awareness Week, running May 3-9, 2021. This year’s theme is “name it, don’t numb it” – encouraging us to name, express and deal with our emotions— even the uncomfortable ones.

During this week and every week, it’s important to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health and connect within the Carleton University community for mental health support and resources.

If you are feeling anxious, stressed or overwhelmed, there is always someone you can talk to. Carleton University undergraduate students have access to free, confidential, 24/7 counselling services in the community through Empower Me. Empower Me support is available in person, by telephone, video-counselling or e-counselling. The service allows you to connect with qualified counsellors, consultants and life coaches at their private practice in the community 24/7, 365 days per year – for free. Call 1-833-628-5589 (toll free) to make an appointment with a counsellor in the community.

Health and Counselling Services (HCS) offers a combination of medical care and mental health services. HCS offers short term individual counselling for students struggling with many different problems like anxiety, depression, relationship problems, sexual violence, racism, or personal and academic stress. Students can access, medical and counselling appointments as well as urgent same day appointments between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Monday to Friday, by calling 613-520-6674.

Studying remotely from outside of Canada as an international student can bring unforeseen stress and strain. Carleton is pleased to offer International SOS’s Emotional Support service to help you support your mental, emotional and physical well-being.

Your experience at Carleton expands beyond academics. The Mental Health and Well-Being website will provide you with valuable tools and resources to understand, manage and improve your mental health and well-being while at university.
