Two Great Programs to Make Your First Year a Success

Are you starting at Carleton in the fall and looking for a way to feel more connected to campus? The Student Experience Office (SEO) is proud to present two great programs that will help ensure you make a successful transition to student life:

  • Register for CU 1001: Your Start to Student Life at Carleton:

The CU 1001 program is a free online bundled mini-course experience that provides new students with a focused introduction to the Carleton community and prepares you for your journey as a future Raven. It is highly encouraged that all incoming students actively participate in this as the first step in their transition.

CU 1001 includes modules that explore the 5 Success Pillars: Academics, Finances, Campus Life, Wellness and Employability through videos, presentations and other digital elements. Ravens Talks Web sessions with the student leaders and staff will also be available as an opportunity to ask any questions and connect with the Carleton community members.

For more information and to register visit the SEO website.

  • Sign up First Year Connections to be paired with a Peer Mentor:

The First Year Connections (FYC) program helps first-year students make a successful transition to university life by preparing them to achieve their personal and academic goals. Having a mentor during your first few weeks at Carleton can help you get adjusted to your new surroundings.

You will be paired with an upper-year student who is in a similar academic program and has a similar schedule as you in order to match you with someone who will have the skills needed to help you along your way as you get acclimated to Carleton. Having a mentor is a great way to become connected to the campus, focus on your academic success and personal growth, gain support from your peers at Carleton and make connections with other students.

The FYC program will be operating in a virtual format for fall 2020 to accommodate first-year students taking their courses online. For more information on this program visit the FYC page.
