COVID-19 Update - Final Exams and Academic Accommodations

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve in the Ottawa region and around the world, we have been constantly re-evaluating our plans in light of new information. The safety of our community is our first priority. Earlier today, the University announced that face-to-face classes have been cancelled and alternative modes of instruction are to be used for the remainder of the term.

No Face-to-Face Exams for Winter Term
There will be no face-to-face final examinations for the Winter Term. Instructors who were planning to use standard final examinations have been informed that they need to adopt alternative formats for assessment.

Academic Accommodation
We recognize that alternate course delivery and assessment methods could present unique challenges. In light of this, Carleton is temporarily suspending the need for a doctor’s note or medical certificate when requesting academic accommodation related to COVID-19. Students should use the self-declaration form available at https://carleton.ca/registrar/wp-content/uploads/COVID-19_Self-declaration.pdf to request academic accommodation for missed course work including exams and assignments. Students are also encouraged to connect directly with their instructors to discuss any required accommodations arising from the COVID-19 situation.

The safety of the Carleton community is our top priority and all structures are in place to make decisions quickly in a rapidly changing environment. Please continue to check Carleton’s COVID-19 website for updates.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Blanchard
Vice-President (Students and Enrolment) and University Registrar
