IRCC Biometrics Expansion in Canada

Do you need to apply for a study permit extension, a Post-Graduation Work Permit or Visitor Record? As of December 3, 2019, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) needs your biometrics (fingerprints and photo), if you didn’t give them before coming to Canada.

These are the new steps included in an online application:

  1. Pay an additional $85 biometrics fee.
  2. Receive the biometrics instruction letter in your online account.
  3. Make an appointment with a collections centre. The closest to Carleton is the Service Canada Centre-Passport Service office at 885 Meadlowlands Drive East.
  4. Go to Service Canada with your instruction letter and your passport.

You can get more information about biometrics on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website or at the International Student Service Office (ISSO), 128 University Centre.
