The end of the fall semester is almost here and final exams are quickly approaching. It’s about that time where if you haven’t already, you should start preparing yourself for final exams and in order to do this, Carleton has a variety of up-coming support resources available for you to take advantage of.
Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS)
The Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) offers many different support options for students in all programs before exams officially begin. CSAS provides one-on-one learning support sessions for students and these sessions are offered on a drop-in basis. If you are interested in receiving one-on-one support, the list of drop-in hours are located on the Learning Support Sessions page. There are also a lot of up-coming workshops that will be able to help you study or prepare yourself for your exams. CSAS offers nine of their workshops on cuLearn and you can self-enroll using the instructions provided on the CSAS website. All of their in-person workshops will take place in 402 MacOdrum Library and the list can be found on MySuccess through Carleton Central.
Science Student Success Centre (SSSC)
If you are in the Faculty of Science, the Science Student Success Centre (SSSC) offers science students peer-to-peer one-on-one mentoring support to help with study skills, time management and, specifically during exam season, help you create your own personal study schedule. The mentors are upper year students who are always excited to help you reach your social, career and academic roles.
SSSC has a few up-coming workshops, such as Studying for Science Exams on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. and Thursday, November 28, 2019, at 2:30 p.m. and Studying for Comp Sci exams also on November 28 at 5:30 p.m. These workshops review how to study for (mainly) first year classes in science. These workshops will also go over how to study well, tackling multiple choice questions and more. All of their services and upcoming events and workshops can be found on the SSSC website.
Sprott Academic Success Services
If you are part of the Sprott School of Business, stay tuned for exam review sessions hosted by some of the business professors. This exam review will be mostly for second year courses and will be hosted on the last day of classes, Friday, December 6, 2019. The Sprott Business Student Society (SBSS) will also be hosting separate exam reviews for all of the core Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of International Business courses. These courses are BUSI 1701, 1800, ECON 1001 and 1002, SOCI 1005 and PSYC 1002 section D, as well as MATH 1009. Dates for these SBSS exam review sessions will be available soon.
Math Tutorial Centre (MTC)
Many math courses are supported by the Math Tutorial Centre (MTC). Students in these classes can drop-in for help and will be aided by teaching assistants (TAs). At the MTC you can get support for math questions you are stuck on and get clarification on concepts you might be unsure about.
If you would like to know if your math course is supported by the MTC, and the location and schedule, visit the MTC page. There are also many other helpful services such as the Mathematics and Statistics Learning Assistance Program, which offers example videos for many selected questions in most first year and some second year classes.
Please note that since the MTC is primarily staffed with TAs who have their own exams, the MTC will not be open during the exam period. This means that the MTC will only be open until Friday, December 6, 2019.
