In May 2020, the Global and International Studies Program will be organizing a Carleton Course Abroad entitled “Radical Embodiment in the Swiss and French Alps, 1816-1916,” taught by Marsha Barsky. Students from all programs are invited to apply, the deadline is Sunday, December 1, 2019.
In this course, students will literally walk in the footsteps of Mary Shelley, Lord Byron, Wordsworth and later writers, artists, musicians, academics and free thinkers who traveled to the mountains seeking inspiration for their art. Students will read and discuss within the settings in which these works were produced in order to get a deeper sense of the embodied nature of the creative process that occurred there.
The course will run in the Spring 2020 term (May 4 to June 16) with the period from mid-May to the end of May spent in the Alps.
