Carleton’s Sexual Assault Support Services is looking to expand our community of peer support volunteers!
About the Peer Support Program
The peer support program is run out of the Department of Equity Services (503 Robertson Hall). The goal of the program is to have a student peer supporter available during the majority of business hours (8:30-4:30) so that students who come to the office looking for support have the option of speaking with a trained peer. Volunteers are asked to provide a minimum of 2 hours per week.
Volunteers are provided with 35 hours of training on how to provide survivor-centered support to survivors of sexual violence. The training is completed from a trauma-informed perspective, and includes sections on anti-oppressive practices and intersectionality.
Through this program, you are able to connect with your peers in meaningful ways, and develop new skill sets that you may not learn in the classroom. You are also able to add the volunteer experience to your resume and co-curricular record.
All volunteers must be available to attend mandatory training sessions which will begin in September, 2018. The training dates are as follows:
- Tuesday, September 18th – 6:00pm-9:00pm
- Saturday, September 22nd – 8:30am-4:30pm
- Sunday, September 23rd – 8:30am-4:30pm
- Tuesday, September 25th – 6:00pm-9:00pm
- Tuesday, October 2nd – 6:00pm-9:00pm
- Tuesday, October 9th – 6:00pm-9:00pm
- Saturday, October 13th – 8:30am-4:30pm
- Tuesday, October 16th – 6:00pm-9:00pm
Applicants are asked to send their resume and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications must be received by September 6th, 2018 at 4:30 pm. Applicants will be contacted soon after to attend an interview during the week of September 10th-14th.
If you have any questions please contact Jenna Easton, Sexual Assault/Public Education Coordinator.
