To all Members of the Carleton Community,
Representatives for the university and CUPE 2424 (representing administrative, technical and library staff) met on Jan. 9, 2018. This was the sixteenth day of bargaining – the last three with the assistance of a conciliator.
At this point, there are a few issues remaining at the table. Over the course of the 16 days, the parties have made significant progress. All non-monetary issues have been resolved. The university has also tabled across-the-board wage increases which it believes fairly address the union’s monetary demands.
In addition, there is an outstanding pension issue. The university continues to maintain that all employee groups should contribute equally to the pension plan since all groups receive a benefit based on the same formula. CUPE local 2424 members cannot have a special contribution rate that is different from all other members of the Carleton pension plan.
The union has requested, and the employer agreed, to meet again with the conciliator in early February. The university remains confident that the parties will achieve an agreement.
