Carleton Ravens TSN1200 Athletes of the Week: October 9

Defender – 2nd year – Brampton, ON

Carleton Ravens women’s soccer player Aaliyah McPherson is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.

McPherson, a sophomore defender, was a rock in the back for the Ravens in their weekend set against Queen’s and RMC at MNP Park.

Despite falling to the nationally ranked Gaels on October 7, McPherson had a strong performance in the back four, making timely tackles and blocks to contain one of the conference’s top offences.

In Carleton’s 1-0 win over RMC, McPherson provided the Ravens with an 80th minute game-winning goal on a sensational 30-yard strike into the top corner. The 5-foot-5 defender’s first goal of the season snapped the team’s six game losing streak to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Aaliyah, a native of Brampton, ON, is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (Law) at Carleton University.

GABRIEL BITAR – Men’s Soccer
Forward – 1st year – Ottawa, ON

Carleton Ravens men’s soccer player Gabriel Bitar is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.

Bitar, a first-year striker for the No.4-ranked Ravens men’s soccer team, had a prolific scoring weekend in Carleton’s two victories over Queen’s and RMC.

The 5-foot-9 talisman sniped both of Carleton’s goals in a 2-0 shutout win over the visiting Gaels on October 7, before adding another two-goal tally in a 5-0 victory against the Paladins on October 8.

Bitar, a product of Ottawa South United, scored two game-winning goals to grab a share of the conference lead with four on the campaign, and his 13 goals on the season ties him with teammate Stefan Karajovanovic at the top of the national scoring leaderboard.

Gabriel, a native of Ottawa, ON, is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at Carleton University.
