Dear Members of the Carleton University Community,
It is a great pleasure to announce the appointment of Ms. Smita Bharadia to the position of Director, Equity Services at Carleton University. Ms. Bharadia is well-known to the Carleton community for her work in developing human rights initiatives and the Safe Space Program. She has actively been involved in advising, mentoring and counselling faculty, staff and students on equity issues and human rights concerns. She has served the university for 16 years as Acting Director of Equity Services, as Equity Advisor and as a Training Specialist in Learning and Development in Human Resources.
Prior to coming to Canada, Ms. Bharadia completed an undergraduate program in Education, Economics, and History at the University of Birmingham and was Deputy Head of the Business Studies Department for the Ernest Bevin School and the Longford Community School in London.
Ms. Bharadia has also completed a number of certificates in Intercultural Studies, intercultural communications and communications. She is also a certified MBTI facilitator.
In addition to her work, Ms. Bharadia has been an active member of the community. She was elected as a representative of staff to the Board of Governors, and has served as a member of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce. She was twice elected as President of the Gujarati Cultural Association and was selected as a leadership representative for the Governor General’s Leadership Conference.
